Founded in 1985, we are a member of the Irish League of Credit Unions, and like all members of the ILCU,
are a financial organisation based on the Co-operative principle. It is all about members pooling their resources to help each other and themselves. Each member of the Credit Union has an equal vote, regardless of their level of savings, which they can exercise every year at AGM. We are a “Not-for-profit” organisation which means that the surplus funds from the yearly financial activity are either re-invested in the Credit Union or returned to the members in the form of dividend and/or interest rebate. castledermot cerdit union
How is it run?
“For the members, by the members”
The Board of Management is made up of 15 members, each of which serves on several sub-committees dealing with different aspects of the Credit Union business. They pool this information at the monthly Board meeting where necessary decisions can be made.
The Supervisory Committee, made up of 3 further members, are charged with keeping an overview on the Board of Management and CU business to make sure everything is going according to plan.
Volunteerism is the backbone of the Credit Union movement from your local Credit Union all the way to the top of the ILCU. These 18 positions, along with many of the Tellers you will meet while conducting your business at the counter of Castledermot Credit Union are volunteers, and any member is welcome to put themselves forward to fill positions as they become vacant.
